How fluent is your Lithuanian? If you understand it well — or even if you’d just like to absorb a spectacular production, knowing you won’t follow all of it — you might want to check out Snekuciai, a Lithuanian musical theater production being presented at Andrews Osborne Academy Auditorium in Willoughby. It features more than 50 musicians, singers, dancers and a choir in authentic folk costumes, in the satirical telling of a story from almost a century ago.
Based on the novel The Artisan and His Sons from 1936 by Lithuanian writer Petras Cvirka, it incorporates his country’s folk traditions into the story of two friends, a tradesman and a tailor, who dream of bigger and better things. The ethnic details provided fodder for a popular 1976 musical as well as the more modern version that will be performed here.
Tickets are $30 and $45; $15 for youth.
