House of Blues Showcases Local Ladies @ Women Rock CLE

Sat 7/20 @ 6PM

It’s interesting to look at the progression of women participating in the local music scene. In the ’60s, you couldn’t even name a dozen. Throughout the ’70s, there were maybe two dozen, with a handful more in the 80s. In ’90s, just as nationally, the number increased dramatically and by the 2000s it became difficult to keep track of them. And while rock music is still dominated by quartets of shaggy young men in work shirts, every time you turn around there’s a new young woman leading a band.

The House of Blues showcases just a sampling (all it could be: getting a significant number would require a major festival) at its annual Women Rock CLE concert, with acts playing in both the main Music Hall and the Foundation Room.

In the former, check out folk rockers Maura Rogers and the Bellows (pictured), the bluesy AJ & the Woods, soul/jazz ensemble the Alyssa Boyd Quartet, Canton’s five-piece rockers the Scenic Route and electronic duo Hera. Playing in the Foundation Room are former High School Rock Off winner Madeline Finn, Kid Tigrr, a project of Niights’ Jenna Fournier, pop rockers the Dream Masons, indie pop duo HeyOhWell and Akron singer/songwriter Indré.

Gabrielle Kreuz hosts. Tickets are a flat $10 for what is sure to be an outstanding evening of music, and proceeds go to Laura’s Home, which supports at-risk women and children.
