Cinema on the Square Shows Classic Films at the Conner Palace Theatre

Thu 8/1-Sun 8/18

Some of you baby boomers may remember those long, hot summers without air conditioning when by the dog days of August (when you didn’t start school until after Labor Day!), you relieved the heat by going to a nice, cool movie palace.

Each August Playhouse Square lets you relieve those days, or share them with younger generations at the Cinema on the Square series at the Conner Palace Theatre. Now in its 22nd year, the series shows 15 classic films on a BIG screen — none of this multiplex stuff — including eight which are part of the series of the first time.

It kicks off Thu 8/1 @ 7:30PM with Jurassic Park, the 1993 sci-fi film about dinosaurs accidentally released from a modern theme park, followed on Fri 8/2 @ 7:30PM by the powerful, and sadly still relevant, 1962 deep dive at racism in the U.S., To Kill a Mockingbird.

Others in the series range from the bawdy 1978 college comedy Animal House, to the classic spy thriller, 1963’s From Russia With Love, to the 1944 Judy Garland musical Meet Me in St. Louis. Find a full schedule here.

Tickets are only $5 per film, or $4 for students with valid ID, seniors and kids under 12. A six-film pass is available for $15.
