Rising Tide at Maelstrom Collaborative Arts Brings Artists Together to Push Their Craft Forward

Thu 6/20-Sat 6/22 @ 7:30PM

Rising Tide by Maelstrom Collaborative Arts showcases a mixed-media performance and visual arts show in the most literal sense of the word — a scrapbook of artist-teams pieces together a unique showing of art, dance, music and more.

Maelstrom’s project pairs two artists from similar backgrounds with “Third Eye” — another artistic partner that helps develop the project from the perspective of a different outlet. Third Eyes help the development of each piece, helping to answer questions like “What can we learn/see/experience from a deep dive into movement through the lens of visual arts?” or “How does learning and using the tools of a musician influence the way we create and present story and theater to a live audience?”

For example, painter Suhaylah Hamzah and graffiti artist Prentice Howard are guided by their performance artist-Third Eye Lauren Joy Fraley to present their new craft. In another instance, oboist & composer Devin Hinzo and indie-rocker Cassie Bishop have consulted dancer and feminist performance scholar Meiver De la Cruz to create their piece. Each of these artists are pushing the boundaries of their particular medium, which makes for a distinctive form of collaboration that plays with the way we experience different art forms.

Rising Tide is part of Maelstrom Collaborative Arts Mixed Media series, which are one-weekend shows that showcase collaborations between diverse artists from different disciplines and backgrounds. The formats of these shows are constantly changing to accommodate different artists with different styles.

Tickets for Thursday are $10 and $15 on Friday and Saturday. They can be purchased online here or at the door. Doors at 7pm, show starts at 7:30pm.
