Have Fun and Support the Dancing Wheels Ensemble at “A Night at the Races”

Sat 2/23 @ 6:30PM

Last year was a year of big changes for Dancing Wheels, the distinctive Cleveland-based ensemble founded by president/artistic director Mary Verdi-Fletcher in 1980. She became the first professional wheelchair dancer in the U.S. after forming the company, which mingles the movement of “standup” and wheelchair dancers.

Notified in late 2017 that it was being evicted from its longtime home in the Masonic Auditorium Building on Euclid, the group had to find new space, raise money for the move, renovate the new space and then pull up stakes and settle into that space. Mission accomplished! The new space — only a few blocks away on Euclid — opened late last year.

So it’s full steam ahead into its 40th year next year. If you’d like to support the company, they’ll be hosting their tenth annual Night at the Races, taking place at Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School in North Collinwood. The $15 admission gets you pizza, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages — you may bring your own alcoholic beverages. Doors open at 6:30pm; first race is at 7:15. All money raised benefits Dancing Wheels’ education outreach programming.
