Doan Brook Watershed Series Helps Home Gardeners Be Environmentally Friendly

Thu 2/21 @ 7-8:30PM

Want to garden healthier? East side environmental nonprofit Doan Brook Watershed Partnership and its volunteer-led program Friend of Lower Lake has scheduled a series of talks about ecological gardening so that what you do in your backyard can help contribute to the environmental health of the region.

They start this week with a program on what native plants — flowers, shrubs, ferns and sedges — you can plant in your yard that help birds and insects thrive. It takes place at the Cleveland Height-University Heights Public Library main branch on Lee Road. It’s led by Friends of Lower Lake co-chair Peggy Spaeth, whom Cleveland Heights residents will remember as the founding director of Heights Arts.

You don’t have to be from the Doan Brook area — Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights and the Doan Brook area of Cleveland — to come. We need healthy gardening to happen all over the region! Future programs take place on Thu 3/21, Thu 4/4, Thu 4/11 and Mon 4/22. They’re free.

  1. I live 862 feet from Doan Brook, so want to know how to help it thrive.
