Akron-area community gardeners and would-be gardeners, listen up. Let’s Grow Akron is sponsoring a workshop and expo so that you can start getting prepared for the growing season.
It takes place at the First Congregational Church of Akron where Summit County Master Gardeners will be on hand to offer hints and help on things such as planning your garden, seed starting, assessing and improving soil health, weed and pest management, how to grow perennial fruits and vegetables and season extension. There’ll also be experts there sharing information about community gardening, the local food movement, use of rain barrels, the role of pollinators, permaculture and seed saving, among other things.
There will be prizes and giveaways, including free seeds (bring any seeds you have to share). There’ll be light refreshments and water refill stations but it’s suggested you bring a brown-bag lunch.
