Countryside Opens Its New Public Market in Akron’s Northside Neighborhood

Sun 10/28 @ 10AM-1PM

The latest project from the Countryside Conservancy is ready to launch. The group that does the Countryside Markets in Howe Meadow in the summer and Old Trail Schoolhouse in the Winter is unveiling the indoor, year-round Countryside Public Market in the Northside Marketplace near downtown Akron this weekend. It’s a local business incubator in a transformed former parking garage where, each Sunday from 10am-1pm, local farmers, producers and artisans will sell their products, and live musicians will perform. The space will also host tastings, farm-to-table dinners, classes for entrepreneurs and more.

The grand opening is a family-friendly, seasonally themed event with a costume contest, trick-or-treating and pumpkin decorating for the kids, live music by Gretchen Pleuss and Marc Lee Shannon and free hot cider for all, plus raffles and door prizes.

This is just the first phase. Later on, the market expects to be open multiple days with a full range of local food offerings and locally crafted beverages, flowers, handmade kitchenware and a morning brunch.

“The potential here is amazing. I envision this project as a way to support Countryside’s long-term viability while expanding our mission deeper into the City of Akron,” says Countryside executive director Tracy Emrick. “Food is a catalyst for community building and Countryside is thrilled to be part of the Akron community.”
