The world’s most famous children’s author, Dr. Seuss, was born on March 2, 1904 and died in 1991 at the age of 87. But his popular books — such as The Cat in the Hat, Horton Hears a Who and How the Grinch Stole Christmas — live on and on and on.
That’s why his birthday each year provokes an outpouring of celebrations. There’s one at the Cleveland Heights/University Heights Main Library that’s a little special. It features a one-act opera by Rob Kapilow, who wrote the one-act setting of Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham in 1995. It’s become a beloved piece of children’s music in the years since. It will be performed by soprano Lara Troyer, a faculty member at Kent State, and her musical friends, complete with crazy props. It’s free but seating is limited, so register here.
