What could be more Cleveland that a competition to crown the Klobasa king, accompanied by an all-day festival of polka music?
That’s what you’ll get at the 13th annual Slovenian Sausage Fest, presented by the National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame and Museum at the SNPJ Farm in Kirtland. Taste the sausages (and other food) and vote on your favorite for the People’s Choice award while a jury picked the “Best of Fest” — the sausage maker who gets to be the official sausage provider for the annual Thanksgiving Polka Weekend at the downtown Marriott. The King of Klobasa will be crowned at 6pm.
But while you’re waiting, there’ll be an all-star bunch of polka bands and musicians providing music for dancing including Frank Stanger with 2015 Polka Hall Band of the Year, Patty C and the Guys and button box player Kathy Hla. Also on hand will be the Magic City Button Boxers, the Wayne Tomsic Orchestra, Ron Likovic, the Chardon Polka Band; and Canadian Polka King Walter Ostanek with the Polka Hall of Fame All-Star Band — a total of 50 musicians in all. If you’re a player yourself, bring your accordion and join in.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
