How funny are rabbis? There’s a great opportunity coming up to find out just how droll and witty they can be when Friends of the Maltz Museum present the Cleveland’s Funniest Rabbi competition.
Participating rabbis include defending champion Dr. Kiva Shtul, and challengers Daniel Roberts, Menachem Tenenbaum and Edward Sukol. They’ll tell stories and jokes and attempt to amuse the crowd, whose response will help the panel of “celebrity” judges — cantor Kathy Sebo, Cleveland city councilman Joe Cimperman and David Ackerman — pick the winner. Cleveland comedian Marc Jaffe emcees.
No, there’s no big money prize or TV appearances attached to winning — just bragging rights.
It takes place at Congregation Shaarey Tikvah in Shaker Heights. Tickets are $20 general admission, $15 for Maltz Museum members. Proceeds benefit the Maltz Museum’s education and outreach programming. Food will be available for purchase in social hall from 4-8pm.
