Bucky Pizzarelli, who is 87, has been playing jazz guitar for a long time.
His son, John,who is 53, has been playing jazz guitar for a somewhat shorter time.
The senior Pizzarelli has been playing professionally since 1944. His career included a stint in the Tonight Show Band during Johnny Carson’s tenure.
The junior Pizzarelli is especially known for his interpretations of the Great American Songbooks and other standards associated with artists like Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, and Duke Ellington. He currently records for Cleveland label Telarc.
To hear them together is a rare treat. And they’ll both be at the Ohio Theatre in an evening to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research. Comedian Wendy Liebman will open the evening.
