The latest media reports on the black bear that’s been sighted all over southeastern suburbs mention the animal’s “razor sharp claws and teeth” that can “tear a human or a pet apart.” Harming Fido or the pet cat? The thought of that will get the bear slaughtered in a New York minute.
But the fact is, unless a female bear’s cubs are perceived to be threatened, bears will avoid humans at all costs. However, the media has to make this a story of danger simply to pump up ratings … the life of the bear be damned.
You can rest assured that some stupid human being is going to do something stupid (like chasing after the bear or trying to feed it) and stupid police will feel thy have no option but to pump 30 or 40 rounds from their 9 mm Glocks into the animal, whose only “crime” is being lost, confused and harassed. Can sanity prevail here? Probably not.
