Cleveland Restaurant Week, started by Cleveland Independents, the largest collaboration of independent chefs in the country, kicks off today and runs for two weeks. It’s the best time of the year to get a taste of the best our region has to offer.

Post-punk was about the DIY aesthetic, and bands ranging from the Pagans to the Dead Boys to the Generators were always temporarily out of control. Attend a seed-saving workshop at the Watershed Stewardship Center in Parma, or a Thanksgiving-themed wine pairing in Grand River.

Break out with a Dvorak-Palooza Brownbag at Trinity, and help kick off the Ohio Independent Film Festival at BOP STOP. Just don’t fall in line. –Thomas Mulready

Bringing Back Memories

For a brief period from 1979-1982, all eyes and ears in Cleveland were on the Generators, touted as “the next big thing” that would put Cleveland music on the map.
While that never happened for a variety of reasons having nothing to do with the quality of the music, they left their mark on the minds of their fans.

Now the Generators are the latest in a series of influential artists to get the “In Celebration of, a Tribute to” treatment, a series of concerts honoring key local musicians organized by local musician/humorist Charlie Weiner. They’ll be feted by fellow musicians at the Beachland Ballroom. Sun 11/5.

It’s the most anticipated week of the year for foodies in Northeast Ohio. And it’s actually TWO weeks long, from November 1-15, 2017.

Cleveland Independents is the largest consortium of local chefs in the nation, and they started Cleveland Restaurant Week to allow the community to taste the best of our local cuisine without breaking the bank.

Take Another Picture

A great photograph by a talented photographer can evoke the sounds and experience of a memorable concert. Many such Cleveland memories will be evoked during Rock/Roll Perspective, a three-day showing of the work of music photographers Anastasia Pantsios, who shot in the 70s and 80s, and Joe Kleon, who’s been shooting for the last 15 years. It takes place at AsiaTown’s Loftworks Gallery.

John Benson talks to Kleon about how he got started in concert photography and how he gets his powerful shots in spite of the crazy conditions he encounters. Fri 11/10-Sun 11/12.

YOUNG LOVERS & YOUNG PHENOMS: Take the plunge with Oberlin Opera Theater in Mozart’s sophisticated and stunning comedy The Marriage of Figaro. $8-$10. Wed 11/1-Sun 11/5. Oberlin’s Artist Recital Series continues with two outstanding young performers: British pianist Benjamin Grosvenor (“If you haven’t heard him, hear him now” -L.A. VIDEO: Cleveland Dance Fest Returns for 2 Big Nights

The Cleveland dance community comes together for the second year in a row for the Cleveland Dance Fest ’17. Organized by modern dance company the Movement Project, this weekend-long event builds support for local and outside artists by providing a space for performance, education, and strengthening connections in the community.

CoolCleveland’s Stephan Haluska met with the Movement Project’s Megan Gargano at Pilgrim Church in Tremont, where the festival will be held, to get the festival details. There are two nights of different shows, Fri 11/10 @ 7:30PM and Sat 11/11 @ 7:30PM. In addition, there will be an informal showing on Saturday@ 4:15PM where the audience will get to meet emerging artists and see works in progress as well as a series of masterclasses that same day.

Hold on to Your … Head

The Cincinnati-based Madcap Puppets will tell the story of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and its fearsome headless horseman at the Akron Civic Theatre, although in this production for kids the horseman won’t be quite that scary. Sun 11/5.

* Trains may seem a tad old-fashioned now, but generation after generation of kids remains enthralled by these transportation behemoths. Great Lake Science Center’s new exhibit All Aboard! The Science of Trains will teach kids (and their parents) about the technology that makes the trains run. Fri 11/3-Mon 2/19/18.

Russian Grand Ballet Makes Rare NEO Appearance

Under the leadership of Constantine Pinchuk and award-winning ballet master Andrey Litvinov, the company has expanded and they will arrive in Northeast Ohio with a corps de ballet of Russia’s brightest ballet stars.

The Russian Grand Ballet performs Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake on Thu 11/16 at 7PM at the Stocker Arts Center, 1005 N Abbe Rd, Elyria, OH 44035. This full-length classical production features the rarely seen Waltz of the Black Swans. Details.

Cleveland punk rockers Cheetah Chrome and Johnny Blitz of the legendary Dead Boys have big mouths so they’ll have plenty to say when they speak at Tri-C Metro’s LiPuma Center. Sat 11/4
