Cleveland has probably produced no more notorious punk rocker than Cheetah Chrome whose jagged-edged guitar and notorious sneer powered the Dead Boys back in the ’70s.
A lot has happened in his life since then. After the band broke up in 1979, he lost nearly two decades of his career to heroin use, cleaned up, moved to Nashville, got married, had a son, became involved with Nashville-based Plowboy Records and wrote a terrific pull-no-punches autobiography, A Dead Boy’s Tale From the Front Lines of Punk Rock — with no ghostwriter (Read it!)
He’s continued to perform with various other artists and his own bands, bringing the old Cheetah spirit to the stage (but not to Facebook, which despite his ongoing battle insists on calling him by his birth name which most people don’t know him by). He’ll be back in his hometown to play at the Beachland Tavern with Cheetah Chrome and the Knobs. He’ll be joined by local punkbabilly rockers Whiskey Daredevils and Tufted Puffins, which comprises some other old Cleveland punk veterans. Tickets are $12 in advance, $14 at the door.
