Fiddlers Sami Braman and Leo Shannon and multi-instrumentalist Riley Calcagno began performing together at the age of 7 in their native Washington state, steeped in the traditional old-time American string band music scene their parents were part of.
They grew up and became the Onlies, all still in their early 20s, with four albums already under their collective belt. In 2017, they added Vivian Leva from Virginia, who’d been raised in a similar tradition by HER musician parents, after she came to a music camp in the Pacific Northwest where she met Calcagno and they became a twosome. Calcagno produced and played a bunch of instruments on Leva’s 2018 album Time Is Everything, released when she was just 19. Early this year they released an album as a duo.
Leva and Calcagno (who spent some time studying at Oberlin) have played at Lorain County’s Riverdog Retreat as a duo but now, finally, the Onlies will play their first show there.
Tickets are $22 by pre-paid reservation only. Go to riverdogmusic to buy them.
