Groove

After what everyone is calling a brutal winter (I enjoy the four seasons, and was digging it right up to when it was like, “Enough already!”), this glorious delayed spring has everyone finding their groove again.

My performance art antenna are up for Zygote’s Mail Art show, and for Willem Dafoe’s visit to CLE, having met him once in NYC back in his Wooster Group days. The Kent State Folk Festival kicks off 9 straight days of glorious music, Vegfest returns, and Share Your Draft to support Bike Cleveland. Read about how the Clean Water Act has become Project Green Lake and is cleaning up our beaches in the process.

Mansfield remembers his luckiest day, Alex takes her own advice, and Topher Adams smiles for his close-up as the latest winner of a priceless Cool Cle t-shirt just for retweeting our uber-useful tweets; you can also win one when you use our mobile app. Or take over our Instagram and become Instafamous. Now that’s groovy. –Thomas Mulready

In an increasingly fast-paced, impersonal world, talented “pen pals” from all across the world are sending each other these one-of-a-kind creations. One might feel compelled to refer to them as “postcards,” but once you’ve seen them for yourself, you’ll see they are much more than that…

This year, Memorial Day weekend marked the opening of the first full season of Northeast Ohio’s beaches under the management of Cleveland Metroparks.

While we’re as excited as anyone about the prospect of a day at the beach (especially after this past winter-from-hell), our lake still has major issues that need to be addressed moving forward…

Singer-songwriter Raul Midón was blinded when, as an infant, he was placed in an incubator with no eye protection.

The fact that he has never seen another person play guitar might account for the virtuosic, unorthodox, way he approaches the instrument. Along with tapping the fretboard with his strumming hand, a la Eddie Van Halen, he uses the guitar’s body as a drum. Add to this his tendency to mimic a bebop trumpet with his mouth and you have a modern take on the one-man band.

This one-man band serves up a blend of jazz, funk, folk, R&B and soul. Come hear him at 7:30PM Sat 6/28, as part of the 35th annual Tri-C JazzFest. For tickets, click here.

Two guns for every man, woman, and child that takes a breath today in these United States of America. That’s not an accident….
