Visible Voice Books, Formerly in Tremont, Opens Six Times Larger Space in Ohio City This Week

Dave Ferrante opened Visible Voice Books on Kenilworth in Tremont back in 2007, where it added to the array of intriguing boutiques, galleries and eateries than made the neighborhood a destination. It outgrew that cozy spot by 2014 when it moved to the second floor of a former funeral parlor on the neighborhood’s main drag, Professor Avenue. At that larger higher profile spot, it was able to expand not only its mixture of new and used books but also special events such as music, poetry readings, author talks and community meetings.

Now it’s made a bigger and more dramatic move, swapping Tremont for a rapidly activating strip of Lorain Avenue in Ohio City and its former 1,100 square foot space for a 6,000 sq one. There it will offer triple the inventory, a full café offering coffee drinks and other beverages as well as snacks, salads and sandwiches, a full bar, a 150-capacity stage to host performers of all types, a mezzanine for reading, studying or just hanging out, and three conference rooms for 6-20 people.

The space, the former Lorain Theater, required substantial upgrades made over the last year. The Tremont location closed in September, and now the new location (at 4601 Lorain Ave Cleveland OH 44102) will open its doors on Wednesday November 12.
