One of the area’s newer galleries in the SLTWTR Gallery in East Cleveland. Its current exhibit is themed around the U.S.’s 250th anniversary, and on Saturday July 25, it will host a special event called “Poetry & Paintings,” inspired by that show. Similar to Heights Arts’ Ekphrastacy events, poets will respond to the art, sharing their ideas about what the works are saying, and offering a link between the purely visual and the word-based descriptive.
250 is a four-artist group show featuring work by Black painters Lasaundra Robinson and Jennifer Price, both of whom focus much of their work on Blakc women and girls, photographer Emanuel Wallace, known for his street photography and community coverage at Scene, and sound artist Benjamin Smith of the mobile recording studio Splice-Cream Truck. Their work responds to the question “What would this country look like if Black, Brown, and Indigenous people had not been hindered but instead allowed to thrive uninterrupted?” That question is likely to elicit some provocative and enlightening ideas from the participating poets.
