Currently, the astonishingly intricate woodcut prints by Cleveland artist Claudio Orso-Giacone have been on display at Tinnerman Lofts in Ohio City for the past two month. They tell absorbing stories about life that reward long and close observation. Titled Disorders of Attention: Elliptical Ruminations and Folk Animal Wisdom, they embody folk sayings from his native Piedmont region of Italy, as well as his distinctive sense of humor.
He says, “The times in which we are living are best expressed through some form of dadaism: witnessing the anachronism of so many abuses of power and displays of cruelty toward people and nature is a quite depressing demonstration of how little humankind has walked on the path of civilization. The art that allows us to earmark some of the moments in our history is something that teaches us a lot when offered to the feedback of our public.”
The show will be coming down soon, but there’s another great chance to see them coming up: it includes a talk by the artist, who is as entertaining as he is artistically talented, and who will be bringing along a pot of his homemade fazoul, which should be really welcome as temperatures dip into the 30s.
It’s free and open to all.
