Roots of American Music is a Cleveland-based nonprofit that uses music as an educational tool to teach students/audiences about history, culture, human relations and how to learn and be inspired. It has many programs, both in schools and in the community, to further its mission. Its Masters of American Music series incorporates both music and storytelling to show how America’s musical traditions evolved.
It will present a Masters of American Music program at Visible Voice Books in Ohio city, dedicated to the music of Ray Charles, on Wednesday April 22. Performers include two notable area jazz musicians: keyboard player Joe Hunter and vocalist Evelyn Wright. Together they’ll share some of Charles’ most recognized and influential songs such as “What’d I Say,” “Georgia on My Mind,” and “Hit the Road Jack,” while exploring their impact in American culture and musical history.
The $15 admission at the door benefits Roots of American Music’s programming.
