Percussionist Jamey Haddad and Guitarist Romero Lubambo Lead Evenings of Brazilian Music at EDWINS

Wed 2/25 & Thu 2/26 @ 7PM

Clevelanders who love jazz and/or world music are certainly familiar with percussionist Jamey Haddad, who left his native Cleveland to go to music school on the east coast where he settled for a while and hooked up with many other musicians including Paul Simon with whom he toured for many years. He returned to northeast Ohio in the early 2000s to teach at Oberlin, while continuing to perform and give locals many more chances to hear him.

He also has a knack for drawing other musicians to town to collaborate with him — and this week he’ll be joined for two evenings at EDWINS by 70-year-old Brazilian guitar legend Romero Lubambo, whose resume is as impressive as Haddad’s. He’s worked with a roster of prominent jazz artists including Diana Krall, Dianne Reeves and Wynton Marsali, as well as Brazilian-American bossa nova artist Astrud Gilberto. Since moving to the U.S. in 1985, he’s released nearly two dozen albums as a band leader, and more as a sideman.

Haddad and Lubambo will be joined by vocalist Pamera Diggs, pianist Helio Alves, bassist Kip Reed and percussionist Patrick Duke for a program that includes jazz and pop compositions by legendary Brazilian composers such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Egberto Gismonti, Milton Nascimento and Djavan. Bossa nova, Brazilian song, jazz.
