The Chardon husband-and-wife duo Mr. Gnome makes haunting, edgy music that can be lullingly sweet and jarringly jagged at the same time. It’s earned them a loyal following well beyond Cleveland with their sixth full-length albums and numerous national tours. Fans love not only their distinctive music, but also the compelling visuals—photos, album art and videos—that guitarist/vocalist Nicole Barille and drummer/keyboard player Sam Meister create themselves at their studio in Chardon to present an image that’s sonically and visually coherent.
They released their latest album A Sliver of Space last year, following a time of change for the duo both good and bad—the birth of their son and the loss of close family members—following it up with a national tour.
While the band has never had a big burst of virality—probably a good thing—their fans stay with them and are always eager to hear them perform. So they headed out on the road again in late August, hitting the east coast and south before heading west to Denver, Salt Lake City, Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, California, Texas and the Pacific Northwest. They head back east for a date in Chicago Friday October 3 and then head home to Cleveland where they’ll touch down at the Beachland Ballroom and be home for a week before winding up their tour with a Columbus gig and a few more East Coast shows.
When they play Cleveland on Saturday October 4, King Buu and the Rosies will open. Get tickets here.
