Nature Center at Shaker Lakes Family Evening Looks at Racial and Environmental Justice

Nature Center at Shaker Lakes Family Evening Looks at Racial and Environmental Justice

Wed 6/17 @ 5-8PM

During the summer, the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes hosts a series of special themed Wednesday evenings, giving people an additional reason to visit and enjoy the beautiful outdoor surroundings.

It starts this week with an evening focused on environmental and racial justice in honor of Juneteenth. It will include panel discussions, storytelling, local activists and exhibits, including the Nature Includes You exhibit on loan from Cuyahoga Valley National Park, reminding visitors that racial and environmental justice are linked. There will also be an exhibit of quilts by the Warrensville Heights-based African American Quilt & Doll Guild, whose gorgeous and intricate work includes quilts that make political statements, quilts that shake personal and racial histories, and quilts that are purely decorative. Food will be available from the Really Awesome Food Truck.

Come down with friends and family (it’s an all ages-friendly event) or just bring yourself to breathe the fresh air and be inspired. It’s free.
