May Pang is best known as the woman who spent a year and a half as John Lennon’s girlfriend in Los Angeles when he and Yoko Ono took a temporary break from their relationship. That period has been popularly dubbed “The Lost Weekend,” although in fact, Lennon experienced a period of enormous creativity and personal growth.
Pang, whose talents include photography, extensively documented this lively and productive period in Lennon’s (and her) life, capturing both the creativity and the partying, and such figures as Harry Nilsson, Keith Moon, Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney, in addition to Lennon. Her photos include one of Lennon signing the contract to dissolve the Beatles and one of the last known photos of Lennon and McCartney together.
Pang will be coming to Cleveland for a weekend — not a lost one! — at the Treelawn in the Waterloo Arts District, bringing her collection of photos, with limited-edition prints available for sale. She’ll be on hand to talk about her work and share some of her stories. It’s free; a VIP Q&A and photo op is also available. On Friday at 8:30, the George Martins, a local Beatles tribute act, will perform at the Treelawn Music Hall
