St. James Church Presents an Afternoon of Sacred Music from the 12th-21st Centuries

Sun 4/19 @ 4PM

Lakewood’s St. James Catholic Church presents music in its opulent space in a series called “The Sounds of St. James.” It draws on some of the most outstanding, as well as up-and-coming, classical musicians in the area.

This Sunday, April 19, it’s presenting an Afternoon of Sacred Music with Case Western Reserve University’s Early Music Singers under the direction of Dr. Elena Bailey and the Aeterna Chamber Choir led by James Flood, along with special guests.

Among the many pieces it will perform are Hildegard von Bingen’s Pieces for Two Voices, featuring Bailey and Rosemary Heredos, both of whom perform with the Trobar Ensemble; Manuel Gomez performing an excerpt from J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio; and Anna Judkins playing Joseph Jongen’s Choral for organ Op. 37, no. 4. The Aeterna Choir will sing Mozart’s Ave Verum and G.P. Palestrina’s Exsultate Deo. The program’s selections range from the 12th to the 21st century and include solo and choral works, organ and instrumental pieces.

Admission is free—donations are welcome—and there is a reception following the concert.
