LatinUs Theatre Presents Argentine Classic About a Young Woman Navigating an Authoritarian Family

Fri 5/22-Sun 6/7

In its eight years of existence LatinUs Theater Company, Cleveland’s only professional Spanish-language theater, has presented an enormous range of pieces from comedy to tragedy, political to frothy, from a range of Hispanic cultures.

Its next production La Malasangre (Bad Blood), written in 1982 by Griselda Gambaro, is a mainstay of Argentine theater. Taking place in the 1840s it explores a young woman navigating the restrictions of an authoritarian patriarchal culture, trying to find her own voice and role within the restrictions of a wealthy family and a controlling father.

The production is directed by Kent State University Professor of Acting and Directing Fabio Polanco. The cast includes Bauzó, Sandra Insaurralde, Kenny Santiago, Reinaldo García, Luis Galicia, and LatinUs founder Mónica Torres, among others. It’s presented in Spanish with projected English supertitles. Performances take place at 7:30pm Fridays and Saturdays and 2:30pm Sundays through Sunday June 7 at LatinUs’s BlackBox Theater at the Pivot Center for Art, Dance and Expression..
