County Fair season in Northeast Ohio really kicks in this week with the opening of two of its biggest fairs: the Lake County Fair in Painesville and the Summit County Fair in Tallmadge.

Both fairs offer six full days of everything that makes up a traditional county fair, including 4H exhibits, crafts displays, rides, kids’ activities, live animals, music performances, foods you probably shouldn’t eat on a full-time basis, and grandstand displays of vehicular power.

At the Summit Fair you can also see a display of antique farm equipment, harness racing, a livestock auction, draft horse pulls, tractor and truck pulls, drag racing, constant wood carving demos, Absolutely Intense Wrestling, magic shows, a Pet Parade on Saturday, a Baby Day contest on the final day, and the Pork Chop revue featuring trained pigs doing tricks,

At the Lake County Fair, which features a parade on opening day, you can see dressage and saddle horse shows, daily K9 performance dog and Jungle Terry shows, motocross racing, monster trucks, and truck and tractor pulls. Thursday is kids’ day with free popsicles among other things, Saturday is America 250 day— free donuts! And Sunday is Latino Day, honoring the large Mexican that Lake County is blessed with.

But wait — we know you’re waiting for the most important piece of information. When are the demolition derbies? We’ve seen a trend lately for fairs to have two evenings of this popular event instead of one, and that’s the case with the Summit and Lake county fairs. Beater cars will be crashing into each other at the Summit County Fair on Wed 7/28 @ 7pm and Sun 8/2 @ 4pm. At the Lake County Fair, they’ll be trying to disable each other on Tue 8/7/28 @ 7:30 and Sun 8/2 @ 7pm. You might want to reserve the tickets head of time.
