The Lakewood Art Fest, which always takes place on the First Saturday in August, is celebrating its 49th year this weekend, bringing artists from all across the country, including NE Ohio, to a suburb that’s one of the area’s main arts hubs. More than 170 regional and national artists will pack Lakewood’s downtown, displaying work in a wide range of mediums and styles. You’ll find longtime favorites as well as new faces every year in this juried show, and as many as 15,000 art lovers walking down Detroit Avenue looking for things that catch their eye.
Take a break from browsing and enjoy some of the musicians playing on three stages: the Park Center Stage at Cook & Detroit; the Temple Stage at Andrews and Detroit; and the Beck Stage at St. Charles & Detroit. Artists range from the classical fusion of Opus 216, Papa Assane M’Baye’s Senegalese drums; the Spyder Stompers’ old-time music; Cats on Holidays’ party-starting swamp rock; the hard-edged, blissed-out rock of Moon Echo Garden; and folksinger Charlie Mosbrook. There are also painting and pottery demos and a chalk artist activity.
