Kent Rainbow Weekend Celebrates the LGBTQ+ Community

Fri 10/17-Sun 10/19

Pride Month was back in June, but with the way things are now in this country, there’s never a bad time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. And that’s what’s going on in Kent this weekend when it hosts Kent Rainbow Weekend — with all sorts of entertainment and activities including music, a scavenger hunt, storytelling, crafting, drag shows, a “Fun Run” on Saturday and a “Kick the Hate” kickball tournament on Sunday.

It starts on Friday evening with a Social Hour at Laziza from 4:30-6pm followed by Courageously Queer Storytelling at Last Exit Books at 7, followed by a Pride Open Mic. Saturday starts with the Fun Run at 11am with all sorts of events all day including a Handmade with Pride, where people of all ages can create, a Pride Market. A screening of the movie Just Kids, a bar crawl and live music by singer/songwriter Diana Chittester.

And be sure to stop in Standing Rock Cultural Arts’ North Water Street Gallery to see its current art show Joy Unshaken: Queer Youth Rising in Times of Distress, featuring works by middle school and high school students.
