DANCECleveland Presents Ohio Debut of New York's YY Dance Company

Sat 4/25 @ 7:30PM

This weekend, DANCECleveland closes it 2025-26 season presenting something totally new to Northeast Ohio: the New York City-based YY Dance Company makes its Ohio debut at Playhouse Square’s Mimi Ohio Theatre.

Founded in 2018 by company director, choreography Yue Yin, the company itself is relatively new in a world where top modern and contemporary dance companies can be decades old. Yue trained in Chinese classical dance in her native country, before creating her own trademarked style, FoCo technique, which includes elements of Chinese classical dance, ballet, contemporary movement and folk dance. She’s produced new works for old companies such as the Boston Ballet, Limon Dance Company and the Martha Graham Dance Company, which is a century old this year.

In Cleveland, the company will present a duet called “A Measurable Experience,” a solo dance by Yue called “Echo, a full ensemble piece called “Sigra Sigra,” and “Through the Facture of Light.”

On April 25 at 10am, the company’s rehearsal director Grace Whitworth will teach at master class at Playhouse Square’s Idea Center. It’s open to intermediate dancers 14 and over. It’s free, but RSVP is required here.
