Lakewood’s Lake Erie Building aka the Screw Factory was once largely an industrial building (among other things, cars were manufactured there!) Now it’s been converted into a hive of studios where artist and craftspeople make everything from jewelry and ceramics to fine arts paintings and sculpture. There are creative small businesses as well, such as vintage shops.
The building has long done a holiday sale but it seems like each year, the artists there often more opportunities to visit, chat and purchase their creations. That include the two-day spring sale and open house with weekend, when many of the artists will be inviting you in to see how they work, with some also hosting other artists in their spaces. In addition, guests artists fill the building’s event spaces, adding to the range of items you’ll find for sale. It’s a great chance to buy something unique from the person who made it. Admission is free.
