Although she doesn’t have a “home” gallery, Mary Urbas, formerly the director at the now-closed Gallery at Lakeland Community college, is one of the busiest curators in northeast Ohio. Her annual “From WOMAN 19” show this year had outposts in four different galleries from Youngstown, to Lorain, to Painesville, to Understory Gallery at Gordon Square’s 78thStreet Studios, with staggered runs from January through April. And while all that was going on, she was putting together her Barbie as Inspiration show at 78th Street’s E11even2 Gallery, featuring 25 artists exploring their takes on Barbie Dolls in an array of mediums.
The Barbie Show and From WOMAN at Understory are both drawing to a close soon. But on Wednesday April 15, there’s a special opportunity to come down to 78th Street for a last look and curator talk. They’re staggered so you can go to both, with the From WOMAN 19 event from 5-7pm and Barbie As inspiration from 7-8:30pm. Don’t worry; it should only take you a minute or two to walk from the RAMP level to the first floor. Several other galleries, including HEDGE Gallery on the second floor, will also be having previews tonight for art lovers who want to check out shows prior to the crowds on Third Friday.
