Last September, the Brazilian All Stars featuring Ella & the Bossa Beat, with Brazilian musician Ella Blu on vocals and piano, her father Magrus Borges on drums, and Clevelander Kip Reed on bass, performed at Irishtown Bend Taproom, on a bill to long-time Cleveland favorite, Brazilian guitarist Diego Figueiredo. Now Ella & the Bossa beat are the headliners, doing two nights at that same venue.
Borges and Blu have recorded several albums together in the last few years. Blu, who is 25, is a rising star, and prolific composer; her father has played with a long list of prominent musicians including Grace Jones, Astrud Gilberto and Larry Coryell. They’ve just signed to Italian label Schema, which will release their fourth album in May. Once again, Kip Reed will be joining them along with Northeast guitarist Bob Ferrazza, professor of jazz guitar at Oberlin College and Conservatory.
