Yet another area musician who has established a holiday tradition is vocalist Helen Welch, a British transplant to Cleveland with extensive theatrical experience. Her Jingle Bell Swing Cabaret show at the Akron Civic Theatre has proved so popular, it booked two nights upfront. (Last year, a second show was added after the first sold out, and this year’s Wednesday show is sold out already).
Welch will be backed by a quartet, as well as the Miller South Show Choir, the Stanton Middle School Choir and guests from the Hudson and Fairlawn Schools of Music, in a program of holiday pop tunes like “Winter Wonderland” and “Boogie Woogie Santa Claus” as well as traditional carols like “Oh Holy Night.” Expect what she dubs “cheeky British humor” as well as the chance to sing along on “Christmas Night in Akron,” all in an intimate cabaret setting that makes performers and audience feel like a happy family celebrating the holidays together.
Tickets are $25 or two for $45.
