The Metropolitan’s Opera’s longtime music director James Levine is back on the podium for its next production, Mozart’s light-hearted Le Nozze di Figaro — The Marriage of Figaro. It’s one of those pieces full of romantic chicanery with characters trying to interfere with the relationships of other characters and everyone ending up with the appropriate person. Bass-baritone Ildar Abdrazakov sings the titular role of the crafty head servant while soprano Marlis Peterson takes the role of his bride Susanna. For some reason, it’s been moved from its original late 18th century setting to the 1930s. I guess you’ll have to go to your local movie theater to find out why when the production is broadcast at multiple theaters in the area as part of the Met’s Live in HD series and re-broadcast the following Wednesday as an encore performance. Tickets are $24. Go here to buy and to find the nearest theater to you. http://www.metopera.org/live-in-hd-2014-15-season
