Heights Arts’ current exhibit Emergent 2021 celebrates the post-pandemic re-opening and its new possibilities through the work of young artists just launching their careers (some just out of art school) and exploring their own new possibilities. It features nine artists who work in paint, sculpture, mixed media and jewelry.
Also re-emerging is Heights Arts’ program “Ekphrastacy-Artists Talk and Poets Respond,” which features artist talks and live readings of poems that use the art in the show as their inspirational spark.
Like most things, Ekphrastacy has been virtual for more than a year, but it returns live to the Heights Art Gallery on Thursday July 22. There Cleveland Heights poet laureate Ray McNiece, and poets Dr. Mary E. Weems, Story Rhinehart and Katrice Monee Headd will offer poems based on works they choose.
“We are looking forward to finally having a live performance for the first time in over a year,” says McNiece. “We have written poems reflecting the energy and engagement of these emergent artist. The synergy between poet/performer, art work and audience is what makes for a deeply ekphrastic experience.”
Since only 40 people will be able to be in the gallery, you need to make a reservation here.
