Inventive

09.22-09.29.21

OK, you can’t do everything you want. But what can you do?
Cleveland duo Midnight Syndicate developed a niche with scary music over the past couple decades; now they’re gigging at Cedar Point. GroundWorks created their first artist-in-residence, and he’s a nationally recognized dancer from Cleveland. Food Strong is hosting its Cornucopia benefit in the Flats.

The Grog Shop continues to re-invent itself by celebrating 29 years of music. The Cleveland Metroparks was named the best park system in the United States. Ohioan Lillian Gish, who basically invented film acting, is honored on National Silent Movie day. What are you inventing?

 COMMENTARY
Last Hurrah for Kucinich and Johnson

Last Tuesday’s election was the last hurrah for two veteran Cleveland politicians. It was also the launching pad for two more. Cleveland voters said adios to former mayor and congressman, Dennis Kucinich, and former Ward 4 Councilman Kenneth L. Johnson. They also created a pathway for either Justin Bibb or Kevin Kelley to be Cleveland’s next mayor.

“Johnson’s final public appearance will be in an Akron federal courthouse on October 8 when he is sentenced,” our columnist C Ellen Connally says, reminding us why the 40-year councilman finishing 5th in a packed field was a welcome result. Read More

 FESTIVAL
Ingenuity Transforms Itself Once Again

Like every big event, last year’s Ingenuity Festival was canceled. This year, they’re still leery of hosting big crowds indoors so they’re reinvented themselves again — as they have throughout their history — as “Ingenuity at the Lake.” It’ll take place at Gordon Park off East 72nd and other nearby lakefront spaces for one day only. Saturday September 26.

Expect a more casual, family-friendly atmosphere, with fewer high-tech spectacles and more hands-on activities. There’ll be a scavenger hunt, a kids’ area, art installations and live music. Read More
