Sujatha Srinivasan is noted master of Vazhuvoor style of Bharatanatyam classical Indian dancing. She is a dancer, choreographer, and educator who brought her skills to Ohio in 1993, where she has founded and runs the Kalaa Mandir—Center for Indian Performing Arts in Cleveland. In her work, she combines classical traditions with modern styles, and multimedia elements.
She bringing a production called Crucible of Honor to the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Gartner Auditorium to complement its current exhibit, Epic of the Northwest Himalayas: Pahari Paintings from the “Shangri” Ramayana. Crucible of Honor is based on the epic Ramayana, which depicts Rama as a divine human, embodying integrity, justice and heroism. The dance performance will be accompanied by live musicians. Including vocalist Kaniyah Hariprasad, a well-known dance vocalist and composer with 35 years of experience.
