After 27 years on Coventry Road in Cleveland Heights, first in a tiny shop and later in one of the street’s most prominent and spacious locations. Steve Presser closed his beloved toy and novelty shop, Big Fun, in June. Shortly after that he announced a new project, out at the new Pinecrest shopping center in Orange Village called Sweetie’s Big Fun which combined some of his wares with B.A. Sweetie’s confections.
Presser wasn’t just another storeowner though. He was a catalyst for many of the activities on the street, an organizer, promoter and cheerleader. His friends, colleagues and favorite musicians will perform at “Pressapalooza” at the Grog Shop. There, Akron zydeco party band Mo’Mojo, lively, horn-driven jam/blues/swing ensemble Blue Lunch, swamp rockers Cats on Holiday and good vibes reggae artist Carlo Jones will play.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Part of the money will go to benefit the Coventry Village Public Art Fund, which hopefully won’t include more nude Trump statues.
