The clock is ticking. “Race, Food & Justice” examines how to expand access to healthy food across all races in a conference at CWRU. The Global Trivia Challenge at Market Garden Brewery will help everyone brush up on their foreign affairs knowledge.

Big Fun owner Steve Presser talks about Coventry Road’s counterculture legacy at the Music Box, while the BOP STOP hosts Baldwin Wallace arts management students organizing the “Break The Silence Benefit” for the Rape Crisis Center with singer Becky Boyd and indie rockers the Sonder Bombs. Meanwhile, local record shops are gearing up for Record Store Day on Saturday.

“Build what you’ve started” is the advice CoolCleveland columnist Alex Sukhoy offers to those looking to restart their careers. Help keep the planet healthy with Earth Day this Saturday at either the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, Downtown Kent or the Summit Metro Parks. Good food has everything to do with how healthy people are and the quality of lives they lead. Expanding everyone’s has access is the goal of the “Race, Food & Justice” conference, hosted by CWRU, Rid-All Green Partnership and Environmental Health Watch.

The 4th annual conference, which is free and open to all, looks at who is growing food and where, what the avenues of access are and how race affects that access. Thu 4/19 & Fri 4/20.

Actress Nikki St Clair (named after the iconic Avenue) was the sweetest gal in the Cleveland until she was cast in a horror show musical as the Tap Dance Killer. Now, unable to shake the role, this 1920s-esque bizarre mobster assassin is out on the streets dealing damage with a theatrical flair that leaves ’em, quite literally, slain in the aisles!”

Akron resident Ted Sikora, raised in Cleveland, unleashes his latest comic masterpieces with issue #1 of Apama and Tap Dance Killer, a character that debuted as a song, morphed into a staged musical, and now explodes as a graphic novel worldwide. Wow!

Tom Evert’s Cleveland-based company DANCEVERT has been an on-again/off-again thing. But it’s always exciting when they are in “on” mode, as they are this week with a performance at the Shore Cultural Center that features local gymnasts, Indian dancers, Pilates trainers and elementary school kids.

Our dance writers Elsa Johnson and Victor Lucas talk to Evert to find out what he’s been going through and how he wrangled this motley crew into a coherent evening of dance he’s calling Transformations. Sat 4/21.

Drummer/vocalist Brandon Abate started the band Public Squares as a solo project in 2014 to showcase his own music. But that quickly evolved into a real band, engaging his former Sidecar bandmates, bassist Steve Manko and guitarist Bill Kowalcic.

Now their work has born yielded fruit in the form of their debut album Nwr&P, named after their self-created genre “New wave, rhythm and punk”. You’ll hear a lot of Devo influence if you check out their record release show at Now That’s Class, which features two more of Cleveland’s finest indie rock bands, Obnox and Lords of the Highway. Fri 4/20.

“Build what you’ve started,” advises career coach Alex Sukhoy to those who are looking to restart their careers to better calibrate with their goals.

“Knowing where you stand, what you want and discovering the gap between is a critical and necessary realization in the career transitioning process,” she says. And she tells you to get out that notebook and write down the answers to 10 questions to help you define where you’re going.

Our fashion columnist Dru Thomas, of Dru Christine Fabrics & Design, outgrew her Waterloo Road studio last year and moved downtown to the Lake Affect Building where her popular Sip & Sew classes are selling out. So she’s looking for help!

She has several part-time jobs open, so if you can sew or sell and are reliable, go to her website and check out the job requirements.
