Jam

It’s what musicians do when they get together, if they’re feeling it. It’s a tasty confection from the bounty all around our region. It’s getting stuck when you least expect it. It’s trying to force something that doesn’t quite fit. Until it does.

We fit a lot into this issue of CoolCleveland. The first 100 days of art at SPACES, the first Hispanic Burlesque showcase, the 98th annual children’s book week, and a release debut by a band of indie veterans. I’ll be hosting the GlamJam at the Aquarium with 20 models, 8 designers, open bar, a History of Glam, and Vanity Crash. We’re gonna jam. –Thomas Mulready

Artists have a lot to say about what’s going on in the country right now. And while the new show at SPACES, The First 100+ Days, was planned to take place whoever was elected president, its focus on immigration wouldn’t have had the same sting if the election had turned out differently.

CoolCleveland’s John Benson talked with SPACES director Christina Vassallo to learn how the seeds were planted during last year’s RNC, how it came together and what means artists are using to push back on Trump policies. Fri 5/5.
