Actor Jimmie Woody’s talents are well known to local theatergoers. He’s performed at Cleveland Public Theatre, Karamu, the Cleveland Play House, Beck Center, Ensemble Theatre and Dobama. Before coming to Cleveland, he earned an MFA in acting at Columbia University and performed there with ensembles such as Joseph Papp Public Theater and La Mama ETC.
He’s the recipient of Cleveland Public Theatre’s 2019/2020 Premiere Fellowship, and that’s where he first performed his one-man show Tale of a Gemini (Jimini) Rising as part of its 2018 Test Flight development program.
Now Tale, described as a “theatrical memoir combining poetry, hip hop, and digital storytelling about figuring out how to be a black man in the ever-changing landscape of what masculinity means in America,” is returning to the CPT stage virtually at a time when it has special relevance and impact. Woody will perform live twice via Zoom; it will not be available as a recorded video, so you’ll want to claim one of the 60 “seats” for the 40-minute performance.
“Tickets” are $1, although they will gladly accept larger donations. Go here for complete information and to register. Reservations close at 6pm on the day of each performance.
