Radio on the Lake Theatre Performs Orson Welles’ Radio Play “War of the Worlds”

Sun 10/11 @ 6PM

Northeast Ohio’s Radio on the Lake Theatre has a unique specialty in this area: it performs classic radio plays and radio-style plays based on classic movies, where actors set the scene without costumes, props and scenery, and your imagination provides the rest. (At their performances, you CAN see the actors, but don’t expect stage business!)

For October, they’re presenting on of the most legendary of all radio plays: Orson Welles War of the Worlds, a 1938 broadcast that caused widespread panic in a world on the verge of war. Its scenario of Martians invading Earth was so realistic, delivered as “breaking news,” that many listeners panicked and had to be reassured that Martians had not actually taken over New York City. (However, that’s not as scary as a pair of Fox “News” hosts this week claiming that Commie Muslim mayor Zohran Mamdani had so destroyed NYC’s quality of life that all the hookers were overweight.)

When Radio on the lake presents the play at the Dunham Tavern Museum, legendary Cleveland news anchor Leon Bibb will be playing the roles originally played by Welles himself. Heidi Harris and Neda Spears will play the other roles, added by sound effects specialist Ygal Kaufman.
