As Halloween approaches, Cleveland’s Lantern Theatre, just like my old elementary school, stages The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, based on a short story written by American author Washington Irving in 1819. The story of a “headless horseman” who terrorizes a small town has become something of a Halloween classic. And like my old elementary school, their performance takes place in the daytime so not really all THAT scary.
Local playwright Eric Schmeidl adapted the story for the Lantern Theatre, which presents seasonal adaptations of literature and other sources that include music and storytelling. They’ll be returning to the barn at Dunham Tavern for these two afternoons suitable for all ages. Definitely bring the whole family! Hey, like I said, my grade school did it! The performances include light refreshments—baked goods, cider and coffee —as well.
