Artist Sarah Curry Addresses Invisible Labor in New HEDGE Gallery Show

Wed 10/14 @ 5-7PM

Fri 10/16 @ 5-8PM

Cleveland artist/educator Sarah Curry is one of HEDGE Gallery’s roster of represented artists who show new work at the 78th Street Studios gallery regularly. Her new show Servitude includes new mono-prints, oil paintings on panel and canvas and sculptural elements, featuring themes around domesticity, labor and societal expectations. It also features work by nine other regional woman artists.

The genesis of the show was a photo of a graffiti than said “I have cooked for men I should’ve poisoned.” This inspired Curry to explore in her artistic practice the dynamics of service, power and hierarchy, both in history and today, using images of domestic objects and everyday tools to suggest the invisible work behind them.

The show officially opens on Third Friday, October 15. But Curry will be at the gallery for a public preview vent on Wednesday October 13, where she’ll share some of the show’s background and chat with visitors.
