The Wild & Scenic Film Festival was started in 2003 by the South Yuba River Citizens League in California as a local event to screen films about the beauty of nature and to raise environmental awareness. Eventually, it became a touring festival that screened films in cities across the country to encourage people to act to protect the environment.
It’s coming back to Cleveland, this time to Case Western Reserve University’s Strosacker Auditorium. The CWRU Film Society has partnered with Citizen’s Climate Lobby which is hosting it for the first time. Cleveland’s event will feature films from WSFF’s Climate Resiliency list including Scorching Success, on fire stewardship in New York, and Soaking the Ground, about Amazonian farmers’ water retention programs. The films are intended to showcase how different groups and different regions are taking proactive steps to address climate change.
