The theme of Valley Art Center’s next show, titled Art Works, is work by artists who double as support system for the area’s arts community: as educators, administrators, gallery directors, curators, nonprofit leaders, and arts advocates. Often they’re better known for the work they do keeping the arts community running, but many are also well-known for their own art careers. The show encourages viewers to make a connections between making art and actively helping to build a vibrant arts ecosystem.
Artists included in the show are Davon Brantley of the Cleveland Institute of Art, Jill Eisert of Chagrin Falls Schools, Hilary Gent of HEDGE Gallery, Michael Gill of Collective Arts Network, PJ Hargraves of Cuyahoga Community College, Natalie Petrosky of Kent State University and Please Don’t Mow, Arnold Tunstall of the University of Akron, Nikki Woods of the Cleveland Institute of Art, Aaron Williams of Zygote Press, and Anna E. Young of Summit Artspace.
Their work includes painting, printmaking, drawing, ceramics, photography and mixed media.
The show opens with a free public reception on Friday September 11, and will be on view through October 21.
