Guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Jason White became known in Northeast Ohio for fronting the popular local band the Janglers from 1986-1994, just as the wave of “Americana” or “roots” bands was starting to gather steam. They performed a mix of White’s originals and covers by classic rock, blues and country artists such as Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Howlin Wolf, Ray Charles and Chuck Berry. They were even a Star Search finalist! When White moved to Nashville in the late 1990s, he began releasing a string of solo albums, with his own career fueled by country star Tim McGraw recording his tune “Red Rag Top” and having a major hit with it in 2002.
White will be coming home to perform at the Treelawn in the Waterloo Arts District this weekend, where he’ll share the stage with the Bent String Trio, featuring some of the area’s most seasoned musicians in the local roots music (early jazz, acoustic blues, vintage country) scene: vocalist Kari Ann Rutushin, guitarist Kevin T. Richards and bassist Dallas Coffey
