Cleveland Cello Society Opens Season with Film About Cleveland Orchestra Musician

Sun 9/13 @ 3PM

The Cleveland Cello Society opens its 2026-27 season not. With a concert but with a film screening. The 2016 film, Strangers on the Earth, features Cleveland Orchestra cellist Dane Johansen (who also programs Heights Arts’ Close Encounters series) as he embarks on the 36-day, 600-mile pilgrimage on Spain’s legendary Camino de Santiago trail and plays Bach’s solo cello suites for the other pilgrims on the route. Imagine making this trek with a cello!

Johansen will talk about his trip and perform excerpt from the Back solo suites prior to the screening. Ask him how often he regretted lugging a cello on this grueling journey!

The screening takes place at the LatinUs Black Box Theater at the Pivot Center for Art, Dance and Expression. Admission is $10 or $5 for students. Go here for tickets.

Purchase tickets online at clevelandcello.com or call 216-921-3480.
